My story “Once a month, on a Sunday…” has jointly won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Short Story. The story appeared in Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine #40, edited by Simon Petrie. The idea for the story came after reading Jan Ormerod’s picture book, Lizzie Nonsense, to my daughter, and my story owes its characters and setting to Jan’s. “Once a month, on a Sunday…” was published with Jan’s good wishes.
The other winner in the Best Fantasy Short Story category was Christopher Green’s “Father’s Kill”, published at Beneath Ceaseless Skies. (Well worth checking out, and while you’re there, look up the stories by Tina Connolly, Sarah L Edwards, Erin Cashier, Caroline M Yoachim, K D Wentworth and J Kathleen Cheney… well actually pretty much everything at BCS is worth a read).
